Caring for Children with Asthma

Asthma, a lung condition causing breathing difficulties, affects many young people. Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial. Symptoms to watch for include chest tightness, wheezing, shortness of breath, and nighttime coughing. If your child experiences these, contact their doctor immediately. The CDC website offers valuable asthma management resources.

Caring for Children with Diabetes

Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes can impact your child. While incurable, managing blood sugar levels prevents complications. Work with your doctor to create a care plan and ensure your child can manage their condition at school or with friends. Find helpful tips on diabetes management from the American Academy of Pediatrics.

We're here to support your child's health!

Our Pediatric Care Coordination Program provides additional resources and support for members with asthma or diabetes.

Call our helpline at 1-866-500-4571 (TTY 1-877-454-8477) to learn more.

Protecting Your Child from Lead Poisoning

Lead, a toxic metal, can hinder a child's development. Testing is recommended between 9-11 months and 12-24 months of age. Talk to your doctor or visit your local clinic to request this simple blood test. Need help finding a doctor? Call Member Relations at 1-800-553-0784 (TTY 1-877-454-8477).

The CDC lowered the blood lead level for lead poisoning to 3.5 in 2021. If your child's level is 3.5 or higher, contact their doctor to discuss treatment. Ensure their vaccinations and screenings are up to date. Visit the National Lead Information Center website or call 1-800-424-LEAD [5323] for more information and other tips.

Regular dental visits are important for your child’s overall health! Your child's doctor should refer them to a dentist by age six months, with their first visit no later than 12 months. Your child should see their dentist two times per year.

As a Health Partners Plans member, your child is eligible for two dental exams and cleanings each year. Many of our in-network doctors are also certified to provide topical fluoride to prevent cavities and gum diseases.

If you need help finding a doctor, call Member Relations at 1-800-553-0784 (TTY 1-877-454-8477).
